Help I Need Help Branding

Help I have a headache has got to be one of the best overall brands for pharmaceuticals I have ever seen. The packaging is clever, their site is very approachable, and all the copy writing is very tongue-in-cheek… just how I like it.

Illustrations by Eric Ellis

This summer we had the privilege of hangin out with a very talented young illustrator and designer, Eric Ellis. He contacted us to come hang out and write a paper for school. After a short time he ended up learning how to screen print and kickin it with us for most of the summer. Well, now he is hitting the freelance circuit so send him work! And he just updated his website with a bunch more work so check it out.

Not Paper - Collage Blog

Not Paper is a blog with strictly collage related artwork. Also lots of interviews. How do they find all these collage artists!?

Worldmapper

These cartographers show the world as it’s warped by the influence of humans, creating unfamiliar landscapes of consumption, populations and resources, like the bloated map above showing CO2 emissions in 2000.

Observatories

designboom has put together an interesting article about the history of observatories.

“these first structures were used for very practical purposes such as observing the enemy in battle or guiding ships along the coast. over time observatories have come to gain new purposes. today, observation decks allow people to look at nature from unique vantage points or look skywards towards the constellations.”

Music Mondays - Spare The Rod, Spoil The Child

We go lo-fi once again with our Music Monday choice. Okay… I know it’s not Monday. But it was the holiday yesterday! So yesterday was like a random extra weekend day, right?! Either way, here is some stuff by Spare The Rod, Spoil The Child. A folk pop multi-instrumentalist out of Pontiac, MI.

Sunday Painters: Discarded Paintings by Gifted Amateurs

Currently showing at Intuit, a show of thrift store paintings by unknown amateur artists. “Each painting represents the maker’s attempt to communicate through art, and range from surreal to banal, comically absurd to erotic. Lost and rediscovered, they are attempts by unknown Americans to communicate through their art; and presented at Intuit to an audience the artist may never have dreamed of reaching. These paintings are readymade works of art with no creator to claim them and give them context. As such, they become a record of Americana and documents of an experience to which many can relate.”

Monocle: Design Notes

Very in depth article on the Monocle Magazine and website redesign. I think in depth is an understatement.

Paintings by Chris Uphues

Probably best known for his ‘hearts,’ Chris Uphues’s intricate ‘Death Star’ painting (images on left) is quite impressive.
